15 Fun Family Day Activities for Everyone!

National Family Day may only come around one day a year, but it’s a state of mind to hold onto all year round. Family can mean more than just your relatives; if you have a strong enough connection to your friends, they can feel just like family too! This holiday is all about focusing on the bond between family members and keeping that relationship strong.

1. Fly a kite in the park

If the weather is nice, this can be a great way to get some fresh air with the family. All you need is a little bit of wind to catch the wings of the kite, and you’re ready for takeoff!

2. Perform Karaoke Together

If you don’t have a karaoke machine, you can find many instrumental versions of all your favorite songs on youtube. If you want, you can even set up a stage to perform for your audience! 

3. Play Charades

Charades is a classic game option that is sure to have the whole family in good spirits! Now is the time to show off how well you can reenact brushing your hair, walking the dog, or tying your shoes!

4. Remake Your Favorite Music Video Together

Remaking your favorite music video will be such a precious memory to look back on together. Just find the perfect music video and gather your family, materials and...action! Watch the original music video back, making a note of anything you plan on replicating in your version. Then find someone to hold their smartphone or camera to capture your family’s performance! Edit the whole thing together and host a watch party!

5. Pick a Theme to Dress Up as for a Fun Family Dinner

If your family loves silly costumes and characters, then this is the perfect option for you! You can choose any theme you want. It could be a princess dinner, dinosaur dinner, or everybody can dress as their favorite character from a TV show you all watch! Just be sure to choose outfits you can still eat in; it might be hard to get green beans into an inflatable T-Rex costume!

6. Fill Your Sidewalk With Lovely Chalk Drawings

Suppose you have a lot of space in your driveway; you can divide the area into individual sections for each person or work on one giant mural altogether! Chalk drawings are a great activity to get the whole family’s creativity flowing.

7. Go On a Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are always a dependable boredom buster! We have a few different scavenger lists to choose from that will be fun for the entire family.

8. Host a Talent Show

Getting the whole family together for a talent show can be a great way to learn something new about the people you see every day. Whether you choose to show off a hidden talent or put on a coordinated show with your siblings, everyone is sure to have fun! 

9. Have a Paint Party Together

Indoors or outside, painting is a relaxing way to spend time with the people you love. Let your family choose what they’d like to paint, or pick a reference image for everybody to try! Painting is a great way to disconnect from screens and learn about each other’s art styles.

10. Make Breakfast for Dinner

Before the weather sours, get those last moments of sunshine together before Winter sets in. Gather a blanket, basket, and all your favorite snacks! Turn your picnic into an all-day outing in the park if you want! 

15. Write Letters to Family that Lives Far Away

If you can’t celebrate with your family this year, you can at least show them that you’re thinking of them! Sit down together and think about everything you want to update your relatives on. You can even include photos or little trinkets to send them!
