If you're looking for new and unique ways for your child to have fun while learning during this time, journaling is a great way to do it

As a kid, I loved to journal -- 30 years later and I still do. I grew up with both blank journals and those fun ones with prompts and loved them equally. My mom saved all of the ones I kept while growing up and I have so much fun going back and reading all the fun things I wrote. The memories come running back and I also find myself laughing at the silly things I thought were important back then. Boy was I embarrassing!

This is how I learned that journals are great keepsakes for parents and kids alike. Starting them young is how I developed a passion for writing as an adult.

Here is a list of fun journal prompts to help your little one put pen to paper while they're home over the next few weeks and record all of the exciting, different things happening in their lives.

  1. If you could have any type of pet, what would you want? Why?
  2. Make up a new recipe for your family to try.
  3. Write about your favorite part of being at home with your family.
  4. What are some new hobbies that you want to try?
  5. Write about your best friends. What are they like? What do you like to do together?
  6. Name 3 foods you can't live without.
  7. If you had to play the same game every single day, what game would you choose? What's your favorite thing about that game?
  8. Write about your favorite TV show or movie. What's it called? What's it about? Who is your favorite character? Would you change the ending?
  9. Describe your best talent.
  10. If you could learn a new talent, what would it be?
  11. Write about your family members. What are their names? What do you like to do together? What is something memorable about each one?

  13. Finish this sentence: I wish I knew more about...
  14. Invent something to make the world a better place and write about it.

Don't forget to have your child date each journal entry as they write. These will be so fun to reread someday as they are sure to bring back tons of fun and interesting memories from being stuck at home together as a family.
